The exterior of the Collegiate
The facade, of late 16 century’s “manierism style“, completely covered in white travertine, is divided in two orders: the lower part Corinthian, the upper compound. Both of them are ach composed by three partitions structured in pilaster strips which give them a sense of harmony.
Over the central portal lays an arched gable, while on the sides, on the two orders, we can find four nichs where, in 1816, were collocated the staues (made of backed clay and painted white) of saints Ansano and Vittore (higher) and Caterina and Bernardino (lower).
The crossing of the transcripts is surmonted by a romans style dome laying on an octagonal tumbour, illuminated by a lantern.
The other side of the “Collegiata” are characterized by a succession of red bricks an travertine decorations, typical of sienese architecture.
